Welcome and Rating System

Welcome to 四六四九 アニメ! The blog will be updated on a weekly basis with reviews and/or news. I'd like for this blog to be interactive in nature, so I've laid out the criteria for reviews and encourage comments by readers.

Review System

Anime are reviewed based on story, animation, and audio. Story is the primary criterion and it accounts for 70% of the score; animation and audio each account for 15% of the score. The criteria within each of these categories will vary somewhat but generally I look for originality, coherence, a good hook and an ability to keep the viewer's attention, well-developed characters, and complexity in stories; in animation I look for consistency and quality in execution (whatever style is chosen), originality in design, and beauty generally; in audio I look for depth, connection to the story itself (that is, does the music or voice actor bring out the purpose of the story or character), and again beauty generally.

Scores are on a 0.0-10.0 scale:

< 5.0 = Below Average
5.0 - 6.0 = Average
6.1 - 7.0 = Good
7.1 - 8.0 = Very Good
8.1 - 9.0 = Excellent
9.1 - 10.0 = Phenomenal

I've noticed that a significant number of anime opt to provide a legitimate ending in an OVA or movie or are forced to end the series until the manga finishes and then later create a finale series. In those cases, following the principle that I should be as fair as possible in reviewing anime, I will include those latter elements that exist separate from the series as part of the review of the enterprise. So, for instance, Neon Genesis Evangelion is reviewed based not solely on the series but also on its finale movie, "End of Evangelion." Likewise, Inuyasha is reviewed based not solely on the original 167 episode series, but in conjunction with the finale series, "The Final Act."
